ABOUT JANET FONG
Janet Fong Man Yee (方敏兒)is Research Assistant Professor at Academy of Visual Arts (AVA), Hong Kong Baptist University. Before she joined AVA in 2020, she has nearly 25 years of work experience in the contemporary art scene and has worked with a number of notable organisations including CAFA Art Museum at Central Academy of Fine Arts, Osage (Art Foundation and Gallery), University Museum and Art Gallery at University of Hong Kong, 1a Space, New York Klein Sun Art Project and Moving Art Museum. Since 2011, she has also planned a series of art exhibitions related to scrutiny of the cultural identity of Hong Kong and its changes towards the rest of the world in a contemporary context. A curator since 2005, Janet has curated numerous exhibitions and conferences in Hong Kong, Beijing, New York, Shanghai, Chengdu, Seoul…etc. in the last 15 years.
Janet has curated numerous exhibitions in the last 20 years including 'New Horizon - ways of seeing Hong Kong art in the 80s and 90s', Hong Kong Museum of Art (from Mar 2021-Jan 2022, over 338,186 visitors); CITYA - six cities' international Art exhibitions, Tallinn, Rome, San Francisco, Beijing, Hong Kong, Macao (2021), Organized by AVA, HKBU with 8 presenters from six cities; “Botero in China " The Art of Fernando Botero, National Museum of China, Beijing and China Art Museum, Shanghai (2015 and 2016) organized by Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and Embassy of Colombia; the First Shenzhen Biennale 2018 in Luohu Art Museum, Shenzhen, China organized by Shenzhen Municipal Propagandizing Department of the People’s Govenment of Shenzhen City ; “Second Nature, Opening Exhibition of K11 Art Space, K11 Art Foundation, Hong Kong (2017) ; “M Garden - Exhibition of Zhang Dan”, Power Long Museum, Shanghai (2018); “Closer to the Beautiful World- Art exhibition”, Klein Sun for Asia Conetmporary Art Week, New York (2017); I wanna eat, yummy yummy, Two years project on Contemporary Art Exhibition, Oil Street, Hong Kong (2015), “A Better tomorrow", 798 Artspace, organized by Beijing Office of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region,2013 ; and CAFAM Future Biennale " Artist Residency Project Chinese artists to HK, Emergency Lab, Hong Kong (2015); I was once there, Solo exhibition of Lam Tung Pang, Klein Sun, New York (2016); First Art Sanya Art Festival, Sanya, China organized by Sanya City Government (2012- 2013); Next Ten Years of Contemporary Art in China, Today Art Museum, Beijing (2011);「我係機場隔離等你話我知」, an exhibition about Hong Kong,1a space, (2012), Art Sanya Arts Festival, Sanya, organized by Sanya City Government (2012-2013)
Janet has been awarded and will also curate a six-month exhibition about Hong Kong Art and its Art History among 80s and 90s in Hong Kong Museum of Art in 2020.
Janet received a Master Degree in History of Art from The University of Sussex as well as a Postgraduate Degree in Museum Studies from The University of Sydney, Australia. She also graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Photographic Design.
Janet has been to be the committee of Art Nova 100 in 2019, the K11 International Artist
Residency program, an advisor at the Osage Art Foundation, and a committee of Young Student Artists Award (HK) , a committee of SAYA Young Artists Award, and was the Project committee of Museum and the Web (Asia), US and Project Committee of 1a space, HK. Janet Fong is also a co-founder of Interntaional Art Exchange and Residency (IAER) in New York.
